[경기핫타임뉴스=김삼영 기자] 2019 대한민국 기본소득 박람회 기조연설자로 참석한 애니밀러(Anne Millera)가 이번 박람회를 통해 기본소득에 대한 새로운 이해의 폭을 넓혔다며 감사의 서한을 보냈다.

 

애니밀러는 기본소득지구네트워크(BIEN) 공동창립자이며 영국 시민소득트러스트 의장으로 이번 박람회에 초대되어 첫날 ‘비전에서 현실로’라는 주제로 정의, 평화, 복지의 새로운 시대에 대해 역설했다.

 

애니밀러는 감사 서한을 통해 “지사님과 한국 관계자분들이 베풀어준 환대에 같이 참석한 모든 기본소득 지지자들을 대신해 무한한 감사를 표한다”고 전하며 “모든 발표 자료를 하나의 책으로 묶어줘 제가 참석하지 못한 세션 자료도 공부할 수 있어서 좋왔다. 정말 훌륭하게 박람회를 준비한 것 같다” 고 말했다.

 

이어 “이번 행사를 통해 연사들이 한 자리에 모여서 진지하게 기본소득의 컨셉 및 예상 성과를 논의하고, 기본소득의 실현 가능성에 대해 더 잘 이해할 수 있어서 의미가 크다고 생각한다”고 말하며 “특히 Sarath Davala씨를 통해 더 많은 한국의 기본 소득 커뮤티니 전문가들과도 인연을 맺게 되었고, 앞으로도 이런 협력이 지속되기를 희망한다”고 전했다.

 

특히 애니밀러는 “정의, 평화와 복지라는 목표를 구현하려는 의지를 가진 지사님이 있는 경기도는 행운아라고 생각한다. 왜냐하면 동아시아 국가들은 현재와 미래의 문제에 있어서 한국의 해결방법을 모델로 삼고 있으며 기본 소득 정책 또한 그러한 모델이 될 것이다”고 전망했다.

 

끝으로 “대한민국에 기본 소득 정책이 성공적으로 실현되도록 기원한다. 이번 한국 방문은 저에게 매우 따뜻한 기억으로 남을 것이다”며 이번 박람회 초대에 대한 감사한 마음을 담아 서한을 마쳤다.

Dear Governor Lee,

 

Words cannot adequately express the warmth that I feel as a result of the wonderful welcome and friendship extended to me by you and the other Koreans whom I met during my visit to your country. I am sure that I speak for all of the invited basic income advocates in thanking you for the hospitality that we have experienced, savouring the (unaccustomed) luxuries both during our flights and in our hotel, to say nothing of the delicious meals that we enjoyed. The organisation of the conference was truly magnificent, and I am particularly grateful for the book containing all of the presentation slides, so that I can study those from the sessions that I missed.

 

Underlying this auspicious event was the serious business of Koreans and invited speakers getting together to share further understanding about the concept of basic income, its anticipated outcomes, and the practicalities of implementing it. I find that even after decades of advocating basic income, I still learn new things, and this conference proved to be no exception. I feel that there was a good exchange of information and views between us all, leading to greater understanding in both parties. We built on previous contacts between Koreans and the wider basic income community, specifically through Sarath Davala, and I hope that this collaboration can continue.

 

Finally, I would just like to say how much I admire your capacity for vision and leadership, underpinned by the timeless values of wisdom, compassion, integrity and courage. I think that Gyeonggi Province is fortunate to have a governor with the determination to pursue the goals of justice, peace and welfare. The Republic is in a particularly influential position at the moment, with many countries in East Asia looking to Korea to signpost solutions to current and future problems, and the basic income program will be transformative in this. I give you, Gyeonggi Province and the whole Republic, my best wishes for the successful realisation of your basic income program.
